FightFees.ca is the web site of the Committee for Just Education (CJE), formed in the Spring of 2008 at the University of Toronto to mobilize against the alarming increases in student fees. Whereas the administration of the University of Toronto — led by its president, David Naylor — has publicly lobbied for the deregulation of fees, and has responded to those organizing against fees with physical aggression, intimidation and draconian measures, we demand:
- The elimination of all fees for the promotion of equal access to education.
- Parity between students, faculty members and university workers on all decision-making bodies at the university, right up to Governing Council.
- A discussion on the appropriate role of the security and police apparatus on campus, as well as the appropriateness of the Code of Student Conduct. In particular, we reject these two instruments insofar as they are used to suppress dissent and intimidate students.
Additionally, the CJE supports campus workers’ demands for fair wages and better working conditions as an integral part of the fight for accessible, quality education.
We are firmly committed to participating, to whatever extent possible, in social justice struggles locally and globally.
